ABOUT US

PiggybankThe University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Food and Environment established the Managing in Tough Times Initiative in 2010 to assist Kentuckians financially impacted by the Great Recession of 2008-2009. This included the creation of MoneyWi$e. The broad goals for the Managing in Tough Times Initiative included:

  • Improving the economic well-being of individuals, families and communities relating to personal and family finance for both rural and urban settings.
  • Developing an interdisciplinary program focused on the needs of Kentucky's citizens relating to personal and family finance for both rural and urban settings.
  • Focusing existing and future Cooperative Extension programming on the economic issues facing youth, families and farms in Kentucky.
  • Identifying other university and community partners to collaborate.
  • Utilizing the grassroots issues gathering process of the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Food and Environment's Cooperative Extension Service as a starting point for program and resource development.
  • Creating educational products and programs with components which include direct outreach to clientele, agent training and support, curriculum development, web resource development and possible applied research.

For the past 10 years, the Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service has continued its commitment to strengthening the financial well-being of Kentuckians through the MoneyWi$e initiative. As the events of 2020 have left people across the Commonwealth again wondering how to manage and recover from the financial impacts of these tough times, we are here to help.
